A recent poll by Democratic strategists with the Honan Strategy Group shows that many Democrats are not happy with the current levels of crime and safety in New York City. 80% of respondents said they are worried about the current level of crime, and 75% believe that the city is in a state of crisis. WOR Street Reporter Natalie Migliore spoke with Mendte in the Morning about what the people of NYC told her about their safety concerns.
“I don’t feel safe, not even like what they consider the nice parts of the neighborhoods,” one citizen told Migliore. “I don’t even get on the subway anymore; after they burnt a person that was it for me,” another person added.
The rising concerns have made some city residents start to consider leaving: “I was thinking about relocating; I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.”
