A robot that had been deployed the Times Square subway station by the NYPD will soon have a new beat.
"We have it in a new assignment. Once it goes through its pilot we're going to respond to that but it has a new assignment right now," Mayor Eric Adams said.
The mayor wouldn't say what that new assignment is, only suggesting that a more formal announcement and details would come in the future. The K-5 robot was rolled out in the Times Square subway station for a two month pilot back in 2023. It was touted as a way to help alert police to possible situations that needed to be addressed. However, the robot was quickly taken off patrol leading many to believe it wasn't producing the results that had been hoped for.
It's unclear when an announcement about its next job will come.
