It’ll soon be more expensive to hail a cab.
New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission has voted to raise taxi fares to cover increasing expenses and the higher cost of living for drivers.
The base fare will rise from $2.50 to $3.00, while unit rates will increase from 50 to 70 cents.The rush hour and overnight surcharges will cost more and it’ll now be $70 to catch a ride to John F. Kennedy Airport.
Overall, the average ride will increase from $15.97 to $19.62.
It’s the first fare hike in the decade.
