Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city’s gun violence problem will get better as the recovery from the pandemic continues.
“We are going to turn it around and recovery is going to help us turn it around, and recovery is happening. There's no one who doubts recovery is happening. That is going to be a profound piece of the solution,” de Blasio said.
Shootings have spiked significantly this year. The mayor said they’ve already added extra officers to Times Square and the NYPD is cracking down on gangs.
“More and more guns are being taken off the streets,” de Blasio said.
