South African Strain Reported on Long Island

New York state’s first case of the South African variant has been reported in Nassau County.

“We don’t believe this variant is more deadly but it may be more contagious,” County Executive Laura Curran said.

Curran tweeted that the best response is for people to continue wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.

“Case numbers and positivity rates in Nassau County continue to drop - but we need to keep that progress going,” Curran said.
