The MTA has scaled back the overnight closures of the subway system.
Beginning Monday morning, the system will be closed from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Since May, the closures had been in place from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Shutting down the system every night has allowed the MTA to clean and disinfect the system. The agency claims the system has never been cleaner.
Scaling back the closures is the first step toward returning to 24 hour service. It’s unclear when that will happen.
