The defense in the Harvey Weinstein rape trial is resting its case – and without calling the disgraced movie mogul to testify. Why wouldn’t they? The move to keep Weinstein off the witness stand means prosecutors can't cross-examine him about disturbing allegations brought by six of his accusers.
Is the case against him a slam dunk? That depends whom you ask – while the prosecution scored plenty of points, Weinstein’s defense team pushed back plenty. When asked by reporters about the decision, Weinstein said he actually wanted to testify.
His attorneys also crowed that it wasn’t needed as prosecutors “failed miserably” to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. Closing arguments start tomorrow and deliberations could get underway as early as Monday.
