The defense attorney for Mexican drug kingpin El Chapo claims there was massive jury misconduct at the trial.
Joaquin Guzman was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years on Wednesday for running a drug cartel. Attorney Jeffrey Lichtman told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel” this was a show trial with jurors getting access to media reports.
“This was an inquisition, a show trial, to show the world we’re the best and the fact is we proved we’re quite the opposite in terms of a fair justice system,” Lichtman said.
Before sentencing, El Chapo complained to the judge about the harsh treatment he received his prison.
“You can’t leave a guy in such serious isolation where he starts losing his mind,” Lichtman said.
