Fleet Week Arrives in New York City

Fleet Week is underway in New York City, with thousands of sailors and coast guard members descending on the five boroughs.

“We definitely feel the love,” one sailor told WOR’s Alice Stockton-Rossini.

Among the ships that have arrived in town is the USS New York.It was made using more than seven tons of steel from the original World Trade Center.

“It’s a pretty big honor just being on the ship that is actually made from the Twin Towers themselves,” another sailor said.“Being able to get on a ship and take it back to the enemy knowing that you’re standing on that metal – those tons of metal – is really motivating and it just gives you that spirit for drive and fight.”

Another said they’re trying to carry on the spirit of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
