Impeachment Drum Beating Louder On Capitol Hill

A growing number of House Democrats are pushing to open impeachment proceedings against President Trump. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will hold a closed meeting with her caucus this morning to discuss the issue. As we’ve been telling you, Pelosi has been cool to the idea of impeachment, preferring aggressive investigations of Trump and his administration.

But many Dems are angry about former White House counsel Don McGahn defying a subpoena to testify in a House committee – and are said to be using that as the push over the line to get the party to make the push for impeachment. Stoking the fire underneath them? The fact that the White House instructed McGahn not to testify yesterday…and that he complied.

Not surprisingly, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler is ticked – as such, it wouldn’t be a shock if he’s one of the lawmakers pushing back on Speaker Pelosi. After all, he lit off during the hearing after it was clear that McGahn wasn’t showing. “Let me be clear,” he said. “This committee will hear Mr. McGahn's testimony.” Nadler also threatened to go to court to get McGahn before the committee.

Someone who is said to be talking on Capitol Hill? Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. According to “The Daily Beast,” Tillerson spoke at length with leaders of the House Foreign Affairs committee yesterday. Word is that he talked about a number of things – including his fractious relationship with First-Son-In-Law Jared Kushner. And there was no arm-twisting involved – as apparently, Tillerson offered to speak to lawmakers. Once there, he stayed for about six-hours.
