A man who climbed the upper part of the Eiffel Tower yesterday is in custody.
The Paris landmark was shut down as rescue crews tried to recover the man. He appeared to be calmly clinging to the steel beams just under the tower's top observation deck with only his hands to keep him from certain death. The man entered the landmark with tourists and once on the second floor opted for the “scenic” route and began scaling the tower.
Firefighters, who rappelled down from above the man, talked him into giving himself up, and he's now in police custody.
The 130th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower was celebrated last week.
