A new video has emerged showing that the seemingly racist confrontation between a group of Catholic high school students and a Native American elder was a lot more complex.
The video below shows what happened before and after a seeming confrontation between a native American elder and a group of Catholic high school students in Washington, D.C. Several different groups were holding rallies at the Capitol on Saturday.
A group called the Hebrew Israelites started verbally attacking the students as they attended a pro-life demonstration. The organization then took aim at others including the Indigenous Peoples March attendees. After an hour of the students being taunted by others for wearing MAGA hats, they began doing their school spirit chants to, as one teen said, “drown out the hate.”
The teens are accused of chanting political statements and “build the wall,” but CNN’s analysis of the new video shows that wasn’t the case. In the original video, it appears that teen Nick Sandmann is mocking elder Nathan Phillips. Phillips said the young man blocked his way. Sandmann says that isn’t the case. Phillips locked eyes with him. Sandmann notes the noise his group was making had nothing to do with the Indigenous Peoples March.
