The Cast of "The Prom" Talk Acceptance And Finding Their Place On Broadway

Michael Riedel sat down with Christopher Sieber, Isabelle McCalla, Josh Lamon, and producer, Dori Berinstein of the new brand musical The Prom on Sunday, November 11, to talk acceptance and making a name for themselves on Broadway in a current scene of tourist driven shows.

The Prom is a new musical centered around a small-town where the school board cancels the prom after a girl, Emma, asks to take her girlfriend as her date. Four Broadway stars from New York looking to make a difference head to the Indiana town determined to help Emma.

Following their matinee performance on Sunday, Michael Riedel asked the cast when they realized that this show's message was going to touch people outside of their own world. Isabelle McCalla who plays Alyssa and Emma's girlfriend weighs in, "The first time I really realized the show can transcend the states was when we did a performance at a school and from the get go the kids were with us, they were laughing applauding- very engaged. The moment that really got me was in the end when the two girls kissed, they stood up and applauded." Isabelle points out that this show is so important in today's world. It really drives home the message of the importance of acceptance and love.

Later, the cast touches on how they found a place for this small charming musical on Broadway. "The show that is exuberant and feel good, and the audience leaves here and filled with hope, I can't imagine a better show for our time" says producer Dori. The Prom is such a unique story being that audiences will be able to discover for the first time.

The Prom has been in previews since October 23 and opens on Broadway this Thursday November 15th. You don't want to miss this amazing show! Get your tickets today.
