“Imagine how some of the students felt when they walked into their classrooms on Halloween and saw their teachers (people they look up to) dressed like this?” Beth Almanza, an immigrant rights advocate wrote on Facebook.
This after Idaho school staffers dressed up as a border wall for Halloween! The photo was deleted from the Middleton School District's Facebook page after the backlash.
“As a mother to a minority child, I would be mortified if this were my child’s teacher. They should be fired,” a parent told KBOI.
Josh Middleton, the district's superintendent said in an apology video that he was “deeply troubled” by the decision by staffers to wear costumes “that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate … we are better than this.”
He continued: “Do I think there was a malicious intent in these poor decisions? No, I don’t. Was there a poor judgment involved? Absolutely.”
All 14 staffers have been put on paid leave.
