Ben & Jerry’s has never been a company to shy away from political causes, and they are making their voices heard loud and clear with a new ice cream flavor. The company just introduced the limited-batch flavor PeCAN Resist, part of “a campaign to lick injustice and champion those fighting to create a more just and equitable nation for us all.”
“Ben & Jerry's feels that it cannot be silent in the face of President Trump's policies that attack and attempt to roll back decades of progress on racial and gender equity, climate change, LGBTQ rights, and refugee and immigrant rights,” reads a press release about the campaign, “all issues that have been at the core of the company's social mission for 40 years. “
The flavor features chocolate ice cream with white & dark fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts & fudge-covered almonds, but it is so much more than what goes into it. The campaign will highlight four organizations and movements focused on freedom, with the company donating $25,000 to each organization. The groups include:
- Color Of Change, which designs campaigns to end practices that unfairly hold Black people back, and champions solutions that move everyone forward.
- Honor the Earth, which works on issues of climate change, renewable energy, and environmental justice with Indigenous communities.
- Women's March, which is committed to harnessing the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change.
- Neta, one of the fastest-growing independent media platforms led by people of color along the Texas-Mexico border.
Ben & Jerry’s is also encouraging fans to sign up and learn more about these organizations here.
