The great thing about humor? It’s all about you – there’s something out there for all tastes. Sure, what’s funny to some is stale and boring to others. What’s over-the-top raunchy for one…and slapstick to another. In a new survey 1,000 people were asked about what offended them on television, and these five shows topped them all as “the most offensive” out there:
1 “South Park” 30.7%
2 “Family Guy” 10.5%
3 “Jerry Springer” 7.1%
4 “All In The Family” 6.4%
5 “Married With Children” 2.7%
As far as what was actually considered “offensive,” there were some definite thoughts as well.
- Sexual Violence – 69.0%
- Disability Jokes – 59.3%
- Racial Jokes – 53.6%
- Penises – 48.3%
- Vaginas – 45.3%
- Stereotypes – 44.0%
- Sex Jokes – 43.4%
- Non-Sexual Violence – 38.3%
Researchers also looked at “offensive” content and who was offended by it within political demographics. Brace yourselves – there are some things that all political stances have common ground on. Within a few percentage points, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents all had similar feelings of distaste when it comes to sexual violence, disability jokes, and racial humor.
