Al Roker "Nervous" About Taking Role in Broadway Musical

NBC's Today show meteorologist Al Roker is headed to Broadway, where he’ll play Ol’ Joe in the hit musical Waitress.

Roker told 710 WOR New York’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning that he got a call from the producers of the show about eight months ago asking if he’d be interested.

“I was a little annoyed by the fact that they thought I’d be perfect for a guy named Ol’ Joe,” Roker joked. “I’m at that point in my career now, unfortunately.”

Roker credits his daughter for encouraging him to do the show. He began taking singing lessons, and he said starts rehearsals in two weeks. His first night is October 5th. He'll be in the cast for six weeks.

“I must admit I’m very nervous,” Roker admitted.

He's also about to be very busy. Roker will continue doing the Today show while moonlighting on Broadway.
