Long Island Congressman Peter King says President Trump should publicly say that Senator John McCain was a hero.
“He was a hero in Vietnam. He lived his life as a hero and I wish the president would say that,” King told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”
The president and McCain had a difficult relationship, going back to 2015 when Trump said that the Senator wasn’t a hero and he liked people that weren’t captured. McCain then voted against the Republican effort to repeal Obamacare.
“You can have personal differences. You can have someone you don’t get along with, but the fact is there are certain qualities that should always be recognized,” King said.
The congressman described McCain as a “great guy” and “totally courageous.”
