Former “Good Morning America” weatherman Spencer Christian is detailing his battle with gambling addiction and his efforts to rebuild his life.
“There is something seductive about the rush of gambling that can easily turn an innocent recreational gambler into a hardcore addict,” Christian told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”
He’s the author of “You Bet Your Life: How I survived Jim Crow Racism, Hurricane Chasing, and Gambling,” which talks about his life and living for nearly 30 years as a compulsive gambler.
Christian said he began gambling in the late 70’s when casinos opened in Atlantic City. He said he had some winner’s luck, became hooked and started playing for higher stakes. Christian said he began getting the high rollers treatment, which he said was “just about as seductive as the action at the tables itself.”
“The next thing I knew I was in over my head,” Christian said.
