Nicole Malliotakis Criticizes Injection Sites Plan

New York Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis is criticizing Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to open injection sites.

Four centers will open, allowing addicts to shoot up under the supervision of medical professionals without fear of getting in trouble.

“Not only is it a bad idea, it’s an inappropriate use of taxpayer money,” Malliotakis told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”

She said that money would be better spent on senior centers or community centers for young people.  Malliotakis argued that drug use is a “clear violation of federal law” and it would require police officers to ignore illegal activity.

Malliotakis claimed it could also cause an increase of crime and a deterioration of the quality of life near the injection sites.  She said it could also lead to more drug use.

“You’re basically encouraging it.  We will be waving the white flag of surrender in this battle if we are saying we’re going to have a community center for individuals to come and shooting up heroin,” Malliotakis said.
