Howie Rose Says Mets Are Holding Their Breath About Jacob DeGrom

Mets broadcaster Howie Rose says there was no indication that pitcher Jacob deGrom hurt himself in Wednesday’s game until he saw a relief pitcher was throwing in the bullpen.

DeGrom threw 4 shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves, but left the game with a hyperextended elbow.

“The whole thing is somewhat unsettling given the realities of who deGrom is and the kind of season he’s been off to and you just hold your breath and hope that it’s not that bad and he doesn’t miss too much time,” Rose told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”

If deGrom misses significant time, it’s possible that Matt Harvey could return to the rotation.  However, Rose said he thinks Harvey is the third best option.

“it would and it wouldn’t surprise me if Harvey gets the start, but if he does it wouldn’t be to mollify him personally.  It would be because they think he’s the best option,” Rose said.
