The Rise Of Head Injuries In Sports

Football has always been a violent game, but despite many procedures taken in recent years to make the game safer, head injuries are still a major cause for concern. As time goes on and more research becomes available, the extent of these injuries and how many players they effect becomes clearer. Warner Wolf, legendary sportscaster, spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about the number of football players impacted by these traumatic injuries.

“One in every four NFL players has or will have the brain damage CTE, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, from too many hits to the head,” Wolf told hosts Sliwa and Mendte. “The rate would be much higher if they counted the hundreds of players who played in the previous seven decades when there was no testing.”

Wolf also highlighted another group of athletes who have seen a rise in head injuries as information becomes more available: “How about all of the men and women soccer players, and their headers, no protection; are we going to read about them years from now?"
