The iconic Carnegie Deli, a beloved New York City institution, is hinting at a comeback. On social media, the deli announced, "The sign is up. The secret is out. Carnegie Deli is coming soon to Midtown Manhattan." However, it remains unclear whether this will be a permanent reopening or a temporary pop-up.
The original Carnegie Deli, known for its towering pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, closed in 2016 after nearly 80 years in business. The deli's potential return has sparked excitement among fans, reminiscent of its brief pop-up in SoHo in 2018 for the show 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.'
According to Showbiz411, the Carnegie Deli is planning to open in the space formerly occupied by the Stage Deli on Seventh Avenue and 52nd Street. The reopening, spearheaded by third-generation family member Sarri Harper, is expected to occur by September or October. Additionally, Carnegie Deli is sponsoring a pop-up at the US Open in Forest Hills.
While details remain sparse, the anticipation is palpable. As ABC7NY reports, the return of the deli, even temporarily, promises to draw crowds eager to savor its legendary offerings once more.
