Beware Of Hackers On Public Wi-fi

The importance of cybersecurity grows every day as technology progresses and holds more of our personal info than ever before. In addition to using unique passwords and not sharing personal info, taking extra caution when using public wi-fi is also now an area of concern when looking to protect your info. Rich DeMuro, host of ‘Rich on Tech’ on WOR Sundays, spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about how hackers are now trying to steal your info.

“Anywhere you have a mass amount of people logging on to hotel wi-fi or some sort of public wi-fi,” DeMuro told hosts Sliwa and Mendte. “They’re somehow getting into the equipment that serves up the hotel login page… make their own that looks just like the hotel wi-fi page, you start typing in your information, and they steal it.”

DeMuro shared a tip on how to keep yourself safe: “Whenever you can, use your own hotspot, and just be very aware of those login pages; if anything looks off you really just have to not use it.”
