A New York City-based app, PlotTwist, is transforming the online dating scene by focusing on double dating. Originally known as Fourplay Social, the app allows singles to team up with a friend to meet other pairs for relaxed group outings. This approach aims to create social connections in a fun, low-pressure environment, moving away from traditional one-on-one dating experiences.

The rebranding to PlotTwist reflects the company's shift towards fostering friendships and unexpected connections. According to the app's founders, Danielle Dietzek and Julie Griggs, the name change was driven by user feedback and a desire to align with the evolving culture of singlehood. PlotTwist maintains its core mechanics, where single friends create a joint profile to match with other pairs, facilitating group outings instead of conventional dates.

Currently, PlotTwist is available on iOS in select U.S. markets, including New York City and Boston. Android users can join a waitlist for future availability on the Google Play Store. The app aims to offer a more social and less transactional dating experience, focusing on the spontaneous experiences that arise from two groups of friends meeting.
