Plans to establish casinos on Manhattan's West Side have been halted after a community board rejected proposals for a Jay-Z backed casino in Times Square and another complex in Hudson Yards. The decision came despite support from Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul, who were the only members of the Community Advisory Committee to vote in favor of the proposals.

The rejection has sparked controversy, with developers Caesars Palace Times Square, Jay-Z, and SL Green criticizing the six-member panel for denying economic opportunities for the area. The developers argued that the casinos could have brought significant financial benefits and job opportunities to Manhattan's West Side.

While these proposals have been dismissed, six other casino plans remain under consideration by the New York State Gaming Commission. The commission will continue to evaluate these proposals as they seek to expand gaming opportunities in the state.
