A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in Queens, New York, where a driver is now facing murder charges after allegedly striking and killing a teenage girl. The incident occurred near Benham Street and Roosevelt Avenue, where a 16-year-old girl was involved in an argument with the driver of a Chevy Suburban. According to NYPD officers, the driver made lewd comments directed at the teen, then got into his SUV, jumped the sidewalk, and intentionally hit the teen and her mother.
The teenager was later pronounced dead, while her mother sustained injuries in the attack. After the incident, the driver, 38-year-old Edwin Cruz-Gomez, attempted to flee the scene but crashed into a parked car. Authorities arrested him shortly after the crash.
The Queens District Attorney's office has charged Cruz-Gomez with murder, citing the deliberate nature of the act.
