Several high-profile members of New York’s financial community, most notably JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, made waves last week when they skipped out of a meeting with Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. They were sending a clear message that his socialist beliefs wouldn’t mesh with Wall Street’s “greed is good” mentality. They’re not sold on former Governor Andrew Cuomo or incumbent Eric Adams, either. That would indicate there’s a bigger sliver of hope for Curtis Sliwa’s chances of becoming mayor to occur. Fox Business Network senior correspondent Charles Gasparino is among the analysts who think Sliwa’s math and luck may hold out until November 4th. He appeared on 710 WOR to lay out what Sliwa needs to do and say to make the dream a reality.
“Well, in a four-way race, the numbers don’t lie,” Gasparino told host Larry Mendte. “I mean, he has a shot, [but] he’s got to do a few things. He’s got to raise some money. I think he’s also got to earn the trust of the business community a little bit to raise that money, but the guy- listen, I know Curtis for a long time; he’s not stupid. He can do all that, and he should be doing it right now. In a four-way race, this thing is anybody’s, including his.”
While the business leaders skipped out on Mamdani entirely, Gasparino says they’re not sold on Cuomo, either, but as long as the disgraced governor sticks around, that would bode well for Sliwa. “[Cuomo] just does not have the money [to run] and the business community just wants nothing to do with him. But if he stays in- because I think his ego’s gonna prevent him from getting out of it- I think Curtis could be the next mayor of New York City.”
