Republicans don’t quite know what to make of the Donald Trump-Elon Musk fight that has sprung up on their social media platforms. Should they side with the 47th President who closed the borders or the eccentric multi-billionaire who created Tesla and DOGE? Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is among the many who doesn’t know which side of the GOP coin he wants to see face-up if he has to choose. He appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to explain why this feels like the GOP version of seeing Mom and Dad fighting.
Astorino told host Larry Mendte he thinks Trump and Musk were fighting for show and will patch things up, but hopefully sooner rather than later: “I think it probably stated off that way and then, like any fight between people who were friends, it got really bad, but there’s got to be a stop point here. It’s sad, it’s ridiculous, and it’s so counter-productive. These are two men who have done so much for this country, and for them to be apart instead of together, would be detrimental… Do I think they’ll kiss and make up at some point? I do; I just hope it doesn’t become irreparable harm between the two of them after these kinds of nasty fights.”
Astorino also dismissed the possibility that Musk might form a third political party one day: “The country for whatever reason is right-left, Republican or Democrat. Yes, I’m sure there is frustration; people would like to vote independent at times or have another choice, but the reality is I don’t see it happening any time soon.”
