The party in power traditionally has a hard time maintaining the edge that keeps them in power when the mid-term elections roll around in America. For the GOP, that means the slim four-seat advantage they have in the House should evaporate, if the historical track record proves correct. However, Republican party strategists may be working on a plan to buck the trend and maintain the GOP’s advantage when the dust settles in November of 2026. In a recent article, Reagan Reese, the White House correspondent for the Daily Caller, recounted interviews and conversations she has recently had with several Republican party leaders outlining their plans over the next year-and-a-half. She appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program and says it all comes down to reminding voters that the Democrats are a hot mess.
“You don’t have to look much further than how the Democrats are right now,” Reese told host Larry Mendte. “They’re in complete disarray, and so what this plan rally comes down to is using the weakness of the Democrats and to exploit that to give them a leg up in the 2026 midterms, because right now they don’t have a leader, they’re embracing the furthest-left leaders of their party, and they’re protesting- they’re bombing Tesla dealerships scratching cars, et cetera- and that is not appealing to the average voter, the independents that the GOP needs to win over support.”
A year-and-a-half is an eternity in politics; however, Reese says GOP members are willing to roll the dice that disarray is the first thing independents think of when thinking of Democrats: “They are looking to really get Democrats on the record right now embracing unpopular ideas and those 80-20 issues, like keeping men in women’s sports. They’re looking to capture those protest moments… and so, being able to capitalize now, while you can, is key to securing the 2026 midterms.”
