How Long Before The Tariff Wars Start Affecting The Cost Of Your Car?

The effects of President Trump’s tariff wars are clearly showing up on Wall Street, but how long will it be until the effects are felt in the prices of the goods and services we use and buy? The price of automobiles and parts used for repairs are one area that could hit the average American’s wallet hard- but is that automatically the case? Ron Ananian is the host of “The Car Doctor” podcast, heard weekly on the iHeart Radio app, and the owner of RA Automotive in New Jersey. He appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to describe how the tariff tiff could affect the way you purchase your next car, as well as how you maintain it.

“The impact on parts has yet to be seen,” Ananian told guest host Ken Rosato, sitting in for Larry Mendte. “I just checked this morning with my three main parts houses, and they’ve gotten letters going one way or the other. Nobody’s really committing, if the prices are going up. They’re working to try and keep things level. Do I expect things to go up? Yeah, absolutely… [but] I think the most important thing for everybody to realize right now is now’s the time to prepare, not panic.”

Ananian understands the long-term strategy but wants consumers to appreciate just what that means to the automotive industry. “One plant in Tennessee has Cadillacs and Acuras on the line- I think the plant is the equivalent of thirty football fields strung together. Think of the enormity of that- you’re not building that in six weeks; that takes three years.”
