Why Governor Hochul's Latest Move Is Straight Out Of A "Soap Opera"

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has decided not to remove embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams from his post ads of yet. However, she does want to create more oversight for the job that would have Albany constantly looking over the mayor’s shoulder, regardless of who has the job. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program, New York City Councilman Robert Holden (D-30) says it’s a move you would expect from a politician who wants the upper hand in everything that goes on in City Hall.

“It’s the continuation of the New York City soap opera,” Holden told host Larry Mendte. “And it’s orchestrated by Governor Hochul, obviously. She’s very political, and all of this is because, God forbid, that the mayor, Mayor Adams, wants to work with the federal government- the Trump Administration- on making our streets safer. So this is what the governor did. She set up these guidelines- guard rails, she called them, kind of- and it’s a whole bunch of things that it gives her options, almost like setting up puppet strings for the mayor.”

But Holden says the key reason for one of the oversights Hochul is imposing on Adams has less to do with Admas. “The big thing here is, she’s also setting up, she’s appointing an inspector general to oversee the mayor’s actions, which is kind of disgusting, if you look at it. She wants to have control- and it might be aimed also at, let’s say, if Andrew Cuomo steps into the race, and he becomes mayor. She’s given the option, she says, that this is going to continue until the end of the year, and then maybe beyond, and that’s the Andrew Cuomo clause in this.”
