Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and fans of the Philadelphia Eagles went to work on cloud nine on Monday morning, as their team upset the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22. The game wasn’t even close; the Eagles had built a 24-0 lead by the time Kendrick Lamar took the stage at halftime. The Eagles played a sound defensive game that kept three-time Super Bowl winning QB Patrick Mahomes off-kilter until the fourth quarter. Was the game worth watching? According to legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf, it didn’t start out that way. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program, Wolf thought the conspiracy theorists who believe the Chiefs get the benefit of the refs’ calls would have a field day in the game’s opening minutes.

“Right off the bat,” recounted Wolf with overjoyed lifelong Eagles fan Larry Mendte, “a bad call against the Eagles, the offensive pass interference against AJ Brown, which nullified a first down on the Chiefs 18, and I’m saying wait a minute- is this going to continue where the Chiefs get all the breaks? But then they called a questionable offensive pass interference against the Eagles, so it evened up. But it started out [and] I wondered how many other people said, that was an atrocious call, against AJ Brown.”

Wolf watched the entire broadcast, so he had plenty to say about the game, the halftime show, the pre-game festivities, the side bets, and even the commercials. “The best commercial- I thought it was Harrison Ford, doing the Jeep commercial. And, uh, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal for Hellmann’s mayo, you know, When Harry Met Sally- well, it was okay for Meg Ryan to have mayonnaise on turkey. But Billy Crystal, he was eating either corned beef or pastrami. I don’t know one Jewish person in the world who puts mayonnaise on corned beef or pastrami. It’s always mustard. I think they messed up that one.”
