It has become the trend in recent years that the first Sunay in February is set aside for the Grammys, and the second Sunday belongs to the Super Bowl. Now that the Grammys have been handed out, it is time to turn our attention to football. The all-important question: will the Chiefs or Eagles take home the hardware? Kansas City has been on a quest to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls, while Philadelphia has risen on the amazing year turned in by former Giant running back Saquon Barkley. Who does legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf pick to win it all? He appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to announce his choice- by bucking a trend that seems to favor one franchise.
“You know, last year, a record $23 billion- billion!- was bet on the Super Bowl, and it’s gonna be more this year. I’m just letting you know, if you watch the Chiefs, boy, they get a lot of favorable calls in the playoffs, especially- remember that first down [in the AFC Championship Game], it looked like the Bills had the first down and the two referees looked at each other and they said no. [But] I would say take the Eagles and the point and a half.”
Warner had some advice, meanwhile, for the Giants and Jets, if they’re looking ahead to making next year’s Super Bowl. “So then I’m looking at the Giants coach, Brian Daboll, and he says he doesn’t know who’s going to call the offensive plays [in 2025]. He’s got either his offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka, who called the plays in 2023 and the Giants finished 6-11, or himself, who called the plays last year and the Giants finished 3-14. I would say neither of you! Nobody call them- get somebody else to call the plays… And then the Jets- did you see what Woody Johnson did? He hired the coach first and then the general manager. You’re supposed to do it the other way around. He says the general manager will not be the coach’s boss. Man, maybe you can run a pharmaceutical firm like that, but not a football team.”
