Why The Hunter Biden Pardon Is Upsetting People On Both Sides Of The Aisle

After months of hearing Joe Biden say he absolutely would not pardon his son Hunter for federal gun and tax evasion charges, few were surprised when Joe said, “On second thought…” over Thanksgiving weekend. Hunter Biden is now a free man, and much of the country on both sides of the political aisle is crying, “The fix is finally in!” Jon Decker is WOR’s White House correspondent; he appeared on the WOR Morning Show to lay out the distracting bad optics behind Joe’s pardon of Hunter.

“This has overshadowed Joe Biden’s trip to Africa,” Decker told host Larry Mendte. “This is all anybody that’s on that trip is talking about, is this decision by Joe Biden to reverse himself, to issue that blanket pardon for his son Hunter Biden covering eleven full years. It’s just so unusual to see this type of pardon, It’s not even a pardon related to the specific crimes that he has been convicted of and has pled guilty to. It covers an eleven-year period for any activities, according to this pardon, that he went through over the course of that eleven-year period, and it looks bad, and it’s been criticized from Democrats and Republicans alike.”

Decker offered this comment from one Senator that summed up the feelings of several lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. “Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama [said], ‘I would have done the same thing. I would have pardoned my son, in the same position.’ But then he [added], ‘But I wouldn’t have lied about it,’ and that’s the thing that I think troubles so many people, is that Joe Biden lied continuously about what his intentions were regarding this pardon over the course of this past year.”
