The NYPD has stepped up security as the United Nations General Assembly begins this week in New York City.
More than 100 world leaders are expected to descend on New York, including President Biden who will address the general assembly on Tuesday. Gridlock Alert Days are in place every day this week, which are days the Department of Transportation says traffic will be its worst. There will be extensive street closures and officials urge New Yorkers to find alternate modes of transportation such as the subway system, buses, ferries or cycling.
The UN General Assembly begins amid multiple conflicts around the world, including the exchange of rocket fire between Israel and Hezbollah over the weekend.
