Is he in or is he out? Who’s telling him to stay and who’s telling him to go? Who is really behind the decisions that will determine who will actually be the Democrat candidate for President? The entire world has shifted its focus on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to see if Joe Biden pulls out of the 2024 race for the White House or digs his heels in and tells the Democrats he’s going for the second term, despite plunging poll numbers and growing shouts over his physical and mental capability to do the toughest job in the world for four more years.
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is certainly among the chorus of pundits who have an opinion on Biden’s condition. The host of the Rob Astorino show, heard Saturdays at 4pm on 710 WOR, appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to lay out the dilemma the Democrat Party has on its hands as the date for the convention inches closer.
“It really is up to Jill and Joe Biden,” Astorino told Riedel and Larry Mendte, sitting in for Berman, “because they control, by the rules of the DNC, they control all of those delegates. All the states that he won in the primaries, all those delegates are legally bound to vote for him on the first ballot (and) if he chooses to run, he will win on the first ballot and that’s it… So they’re in a bind right now because they have a clock ticking, Biden controls the process, and they’ve been very delicately walking around the situation. Now they’re starting to come out. Now you even have (Nancy) Pelosi saying, well, we need to know if this is a condition or if this was just a one-night thing- for both candidates, of course- so the dam is starting to break.”
Meanwhile, Astorino laid out the lay-low strategy he hopes the GOP uses in response to the chaos in their opponent’s camp. “Look, if I’m Donald Trump, I don’t want anything to change, by the way. And Donald Trump should just not open his mouth for the next several weeks. He has nothing that he could add to this, period; just let all the speculation be Joe Biden. Let them hang out there and let them come to whatever decision they’re gonna come to because, again, shuffling Biden out and putting an unknown in completely changes the dynamics of this race.”
