2 NYPD Officers Shot In Queens

Two New York City police officers have been injured after they were shot while confronting an armed suspect in Queens early Monday morning.

The officers apparently tried to stop the 19-year-old in the area of 23rd Avenue and 82nd Street in East Elmhurst. The gunman opened fire, striking one officer in the leg and the other in the chest. Both were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition and are expected to survive.

At least one officer returned fire, striking the suspect in the ankle. He was also taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

A gun was recovered at the scene. There's no word on what caused the initial confrontation.
