Parents and students are upset over plans to use schools across the city to provide temporary housing to migrants arriving in New York City.
Mayor Adams says he’s considering 20 schools where gyms could be used to provide shelter. He says he doesn’t want to take this step, but the city has run out of room to care for the 65,000 asylum seekers that have already arrived.
Protests have taken place at PS 172 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, which is one of the schools that could be used as a shelter. Parents say they’re concerned about the safety of their children and students complain that school events are being cancelled.
