Governor Kathy Hochul wants to give judges in New York more discretion to hold dangerous criminals.
She’s calling on the state legislature to enact changes to the bail reform. The governor wants to remove the phrase “least restrictive” from the law, which she says often causes judges to release suspects without bail.
“We have felonies and repeat offenders that are bail eligible, and many times, the judges are not setting bail,” Hochul said.
The governor said she wants to make sure that dangerous individuals can be held.
