NYPD To Stores: Have Customers Show Their Face

With shoplifting and robberies on the rise in New York City, the NYPD is telling businesses they should require customers to take off their mask when entering the store.

ā€œSince the pandemic this is a way of life for us, where people wear masks regularly.Ā But we’re seeing this being used too much as a ruse to enter to businesses and to victimize our businesses,ā€ NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said.

He said stores should be more proactive and require masks come off when a customer first enters the business.Ā After they’ve shown their face, the customer would then be allowed to put the mask back on.

ā€œPeople when they come in they should show their face.Ā They should identify themselves,ā€ Maddrey said.
