With shoplifting and robberies on the rise in New York City, the NYPD is telling businesses they should require customers to take off their mask when entering the store.
āSince the pandemic this is a way of life for us, where people wear masks regularly.Ā But weāre seeing this being used too much as a ruse to enter to businesses and to victimize our businesses,ā NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said.
He said stores should be more proactive and require masks come off when a customer first enters the business.Ā After theyāve shown their face, the customer would then be allowed to put the mask back on.
āPeople when they come in they should show their face.Ā They should identify themselves,ā Maddrey said.
