Bank To Close ATMs in NYC At Night, Blames Rising Crime

Chase Bank has announced that it will close down some of its ATMs in New York City at night because of “rising crime and vagrancy.”

The ATMs were typically open 24 hours a day, but now will shut down when the rest of the bank closes. Chase said the move was needed to ensure the safety of its customers and employees.

“We decide to close several ATM vestibules at 5PM or 6PM, aligning the hours of service to that of the normal branch hours, due to rising crime and vagrancy that occurred in these previously 24/7 vestibules,” Chase said in a tweet.

Chase has not said which banks will close their ATMs at night, or how long the move would last.
