Asylum Seeker Commits Suicide In NYC Shelter

Mayor Eric Adams says a woman seeking asylum has taken her own life in a New York City shelter.

“It's really troubling. And our goal is to just tell those who are going through this traumatic experience that if you need mental health assistance, we are providing that, and we're going to continue to do so,” Adams said.

The mayor said the city has taken in more than 11,000 people seeking asylum and he would soon announce a plan to better address the crisis. That could include housing them on cruise ships.

“We're not going to leave any stone unturned. And once we finalize our plans, we're going to announce it,” Adams said.
