Mayor Adams Defends Officer Who Punched Woman

Mayor Eric Adams says NYPD officers showed “great restraint,” after video surfaced showing a detective punching a woman in the face in Harlem.

“They were arresting a person who was being pursued for attempted murder. He was armed with a ghost gun in his belt, and people got in and interrupted while police were taking action,” Adams said.

Video of the incident shows the detective trying to push the woman away as she intervened in the arrest. When she refused to back off, the detective punched her in the face.

The young lady was inches away from the person who was armed with that gun. That action endangered those police officers, and you can't do that as a civilian,” Adams said.
