Guns Banned In Much Of Times Square

Beginning on Thursday, guns are banned in much of Times Square.

The area from 40th Street to 53rd Street between Sixth and Eighth Avenue has been deemed a “sensitive area.” Guns will also be outlawed from 40th Street to 48th Street between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue. Warning signs are already posted in Times Square. Subways, schools and several other locations will also be deemed as “sensitive areas.”

The need for the gun-free areas of Times Square comes after the Supreme Court struck down the state’s concealed carry law back in June.

New laws in New York are also creating additional steps to obtain a concealed carry permit. Applicants will have their social media accounts reviewed and they'll have to go through live firing exercises and classroom training.
