MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands will be one of 16 stadiums that will host World Cup games in 2026.
“The biggest sporting event in the world is coming to the biggest stage, and New York City cannot wait to welcome the world to our region," Mayor Eric Adams said.
It's unclear how many games or which ones will be played at the stadium. However, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said it's a thrill for the region.
“We are honored to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with our neighbors across the Hudson, and we are fully prepared to deliver the world-class experience that the beautiful game deserves," Governor Murphy said.
