NYC Drops Mask Requirement For Young Kids

Children under the age of 5 are no longer required to wear a mask in childcare settings in New York City.

COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths have all fallen in recent weeks. So beginning on Monday, Mayor Eric Adams said the masks will be optional for kids between the ages of 2 and 4.

“We still strongly recommend that New Yorkers of all ages continue to wear masks indoors and we will continue to make masks available for any child or school staff member who wishes to continue wearing them,” Mayor Adams said.

The mayor had faced criticism for keeping the mandate in place, even after dropping other mask requirements in the city.
