New Yorkers are joining many Americans and hitting the roads for the Memorial Day weekend.
"We're very excited. It's great to be out of the house," one person told WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.
Triple A estimates that nearly 40 million Americans will be traveling this holiday. That’s despite gas prices that are above $4 a gallon in all 50 states.
"I would rather be on a plane. I'd rather spend money on a plane," one traveler said.
After a pandemic that’s lasted more than two years, many say they need to get away.
"This will be my first big outing," a man from Long Island said on his way to Atlantic City.
Beaches in New York City will open on Saturday.
