With Covid cases in New York City on the rise, the risk level in the five boroughs has now been increased to medium.
There are 209 new cases per 100,000 people in the last week and hospitalizations have also seen a small increase. Despite that, Mayor Eric Adams has promised the city won’t shut down again.
“Let's take necessary, precautionary steps. Wear your mask. Get vaccinated. Get boosted and we can weather this storm,” Adams said.
He encouraged people to get vaccinated and boosted, using himself as an example of the benefits of getting the shots. Even though he tested positive for Covid last month, the mayor said his symptoms were mild.
“Vaccines and boosters work,” Adams said.
