Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is cracking down.
All nonessential businesses must close at 8 p.m. Restaurants will have to end indoor service by 8 p.m. and outdoor service by 11 p.m.
“I know we are all tired, but the virus is not, therefore we must remain vigilant and do what is necessary to get this under control and save lives,” the mayor said.
Baraka is also targeting three zip does that have seen a significant spike in cases. For zip codes 07105, 07105 and 07107 there will be a 9 p.m. weekday curfew and a 10 p.m. curfew on weekends.
“Stricter measures are required in the city’s hotspots in order to contain the virus and limit the spread,” Baraka said.
